Accident Analysis Benchmarking Exercise II

12-13 December 2018, Ispra, Italy
Ispra, Italy

This workshop is a follow-up to the 2015 workshop launching the Accident Analysis Benchmarking Exercise.  This event featured presentations of the results of the various groups who participated in the Accident Analysis Benchmarking Exercise (AABE).  The workshop had two main purposes:

  • to identify how different types of methods contributed to analysis of lessons learned from chemical accidents and their particular value to an accident investigation
  • to identify existing or future technical tools that may be beneficial for government inspectors that are overseeing, monitoring, following or otherwise reviewing the results of investigations of chemical accidents to identify lessons learned and recommendations for sites and for all operators of hazardous activities involving dangerous substances.

The description of the Accident Analysis Benchmarking Exercise can be found on these web pages.

Discussion on producing a handbook – Handbook Part 3

Discussion results

What existing resources could be useful in producing the handbook?

Are there tools already developed that can be adapted for the handbook?

What new content might need to be developed?

Can the handbook be developed by one person or should it be a group effort? Who wants to be involved, at what level, for what topic?

The outcome should be a list of ideas for the handbook and future actions.

15:00

Tools for development outside the handbook

What other tools could be developed in future?

How should these tools be prioritised?  Are there volunteers to work on any of these tools (now, or in a year or two)?

Does this group want to stay involved to work on these tools?

The outcome should be a list of ideas, some kind of ranking and future actions, if any
